The 24th NRB meeting will be held in Norway from 2nd to 4th of September 2025.
NRB 2025 will be a 50 year anniversary workshop for the Northern Research Basins Workshops and Symposia. The first one was in Edfors in Sweden in 1975.
We encourage those who have the history of the NRB in their weins and photo albums to share the history, their images and their experiences. This can be added to this web pages to carry it forward to future generations of NRB's
The main topic of the symposia will be:
"Natural Hazards in Cold Climate Regions"
Flash floods, landslides, snow avalanches, slush flows, glacial outburst etc are expected to become more frequent as a result of a climate change and water plays a crucial role in the processe leading up to these devastating events. The strong seasonality, freezing and thawing and snow and ice influences these processes in the cold climate regions. What are the impacts and our experiences, what do we expect and how do we adresse these challenges are the background for the topic.
But as always before you are more than welcome and encouraged to present your research also on other topics relevant to the hydrology in the cold climate regions and to the Cryosphere.
The presentations in the symposia will be grouped into sessions based on the received abstracts. We encourage you to deliver abstracts before 4th of July.
The 25th Northern Research Basin conference (NRB) is pleased to be collaborating with IWA Publishing journal, Hydrology Research.
For authors interested in submitting to the journal, please review the Information for Authors and submit by 30 September 2025. For more information about Hydrology Research, please see: https://iwaponline.com/hr.

The Travel Route
Due to few registrations for the originally planned NRB meeting the below travel route is not valid any more. Instead the meeting will be held at Lillehammer which a very nice town in central inland Norway joint with the modelling conference.
We will meet in Oslo, the capital of Norway, and go from the central train station at what Lonely planet told to be one of the 10 best railway journeys in the world. We hope to get our own carriage and will use the time to get better known with each other.
Finse is at the mountain platou Hardangervidda just below one of the largest glaciers in Norway, Hardangerjøkulen. Finse is only reachable by train, bike or by feet, nevertheless it has been a famous destinations for hiking and recreation for Norwegians since mountainering became popular in the 19th century. Since 1972, when Finse Alpin Research Center was established, the location has also attracted biologists, geologists, geophysicists and other researchers from a wide range of Norwegian and international institutions to do high alpin field research.
Our stay from Monday to Thursday will be at the research station. The accomodation has a good but basic standard mostly with two bed shared rooms. If some participants prefer a higher standard it is possible to book a room at Finse Hotel 1.5 km away from the research station.
At Finse we will have field excursions to visit and get information about the research sites and facilities. From Finse there are possibilities for spectacular hikes and bike rides and there might be arranged after noon excursions to interesting place
At Thursday we will go to Voss, again by train. Voss is one of the most flood exposed cities in Norway and they have a high focus on protection and warning. We will get information about the work they do from local people. In the evening we will visit on of the most famous dining places in Norway and eat traditional food. A very interesting experience for most people.
Final registration. Please confirm your participation at the NRB session at the conference at Lillehammer 2nd-4th of September 2005
